The Ballarat Botanical Gardens is one of Victoria’s premier public gardens, located on the western shore of Lake Wendouree. Established in the 1850s, the gardens are home to a wide variety of native and exotic plant species. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in history and nature, with iconic features such as the Prime Ministers Avenue—lined with busts of every Australian Prime Minister—and a collection of stunning Italian marble statues.

A popular highlight is the annual Begonia Festival, where vibrant begonias are on full display, drawing crowds from all over. The garden’s lush landscapes and scenic pathways make it a perfect spot for a peaceful walk, while the Conservatory regularly hosts beautiful plant exhibitions.

Getting There

The Ballarat Botanical Gardens are located approximately 4 km from the Ballarat CBD, making it just a 10-minute drive or a 30-minute walk. Situated alongside Lake Wendouree, it is easily accessible via local transport, including buses and taxis. If you’re driving, there is ample parking available near the gardens. The scenic route along Wendouree Parade offers beautiful views of the lake as you approach the gardens, making it a pleasant and straightforward journey from the heart of Ballarat.
